Welcome to the VtM game: Potomac Empire
Potomac Empire: Gateways of Gehenna is a Discord-based Vampire: the Masquerade role-playing game set in Washington, D.C. on the eve of the end of the world.
Overview:
The Potomac Empire is a nation of vampires besieged. The shadow government of the Camarilla has held sway in the area around what is now Washington, D.C. since English settlement of Georgetown and Alexandria in the 1700s. But their power over the region is checked constantly by the fierce spearhead of the Sabbat’s crusade coming from the north.
The Empire stretches across the Toreador-led Principality of Georgetown (which includes D.C. and some of metro Maryland) and the Tremere-dominated Alexandria (which includes the City of Arlington and Fairfax County in Virginia), as well as the Camarilla Exclusion Zone (CEZ) in the center.
The CEZ is comprised of the government buildings of downtown D.C. as well as a portion of the (relatively small) Southwest quadrant of the city. Local Kindred are not permitted into the area and are expressly forbidden from hunting or attempting to spread influence there. The CEZ is under the direct authority of the Inner Council of the Camarilla through their trusted intermediaries to maintain global control and the worldwide Masquerade. In their mind, the apparatus of power in the United States is far too important a prize (especially in the 80s and 90s) for any local licks to get their sticky fingers onto.
The Lupines, as the vampires know them, have absolute and uncontested mastery of great swaths of Virginia beyond Bull Run at the edge of Fairfax. It is extremely perilous to attempt to drive south to the closest Camarilla Domain of Richmond, Va. at night, as you would likely be sniffed out by Lupine scouts and torn to shreds.
The Sabbat stronghold of the Archdiocese of Baltimore is the sharp tip of the spear in the Night War with the Camarilla. Reinforced by New York City, Philadelphia and New Jersey, the powerful Sabbat is in constant conflict with the Camarilla for control of Northeast D.C. and the surrounding Maryland metro cities. Both sects pour money and resources into this shadow conflict from around the globe. They know in this era: control of D.C. is control of the world.
Amidst this conflict, ancients begin to stir who have been silent for centuries. Their cults dance with glee, preparing their masters’ return.
